Wild Goose Chase October 8, 2017

Welcome to “The Wild Goose Chase!” The Celtic Christians called the Holy Spirit “The Wild Goose” because it was untamed and smarter than any other bird.

Dear Sisters and Brothers: I’ve only attended one of my High School reunions. I attended my 40th and found that many people I had not known well, were actually very interesting people, people who, like me, had found out that despite the pressures of the times we grew up in, that Jesus Christ was the answer to most of our questions.

I remember one of the men I met, had been one of the boys prone to party hard back in H.S. And now, he was a leader in his church, married, a family well raised and many wonderful accomplishments to tell for the 40 years that followed High School.

It’s easy to get lost when you are young and full of energy and the world keeps telling you to party and don’t worry, you have time to be serious about college and life later. But that message is wrong. And lately, I have been worrying about the generation we call the Millennials … I’m not sure we are helping them to learn how to work for that future.

Yes, we need to spend time relaxing and a joyful, fun-filled approach to life is exactly what God invites us to live, but at the same time, we have to be aware of our responsibilities to our futures. You see, if we are not careful, we can look up and be 40, 50, 60 years old and older and be bogged down in addiction or not building anything to be able to retire on.  And, trust me, folks, you cannot rely on the government to take care of you in your old age. Instead, trust in God, and use the gifts that God has given you to build a secure future.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Remember, God loves you and so do I, and all you can do about it is love back.

Still In One Peace,

Stephen
